Text by John Ridgway Walker
We are called to a life in the Spirit
Called to live all of life toward our God
Not conformed to the world we inherit
But transformed in our ways, word, and thought
Every good gift comes from Heaven
Perfect, yet still needing time
To become what God intended:
An offering that renews heart and mind
God’s deep work is done within us
God’s broad work is done all around
God’s long work arches over all history
God who has led us, God who leads still
The journey itself reveals God’s will.
Like a father, God upholds us
With His angels, God defends
“Do not fear nor be discouraged”
God is with us to the end.
Like a mother, our God nurtures
all the children of the Earth.
Knows and loves us all in common
Yet sees in each uncommon worth
Like the four winds, God surrounds us.
Like a breath, God swells within.
God, the Spirit who hovers over
All of creation, all yet to be,
Wrapped in the mists of mystery
When some darkness or some radiance
Blinds us as we make our way
Let us then gain our sight by the true light
God of the journey, flaming and bright
The One who illumines and ignites!
We are called to a life in the Spirit
Called to walk all the way with our God
Pilgrims all, God gives us the journey
For everyday, it’s ever changing;
God’s design is rearranging.
We are called!
To be transformed on the way, as we walk.
